Ten days is enough to fall in love with northern Laos if you travel slowly. Here is the route our guides recommend most often.
Days 1–3: Luang Prabang
Begin with the UNESCO city — the alms ceremony, the Royal Palace, Kuang Si falls and the night market.
Days 4–6: The Nam Ou
Take a private slow boat upriver to Nong Khiaw, the most beautiful karst valley in the country.
Days 7–10: The highlands
Continue into the highlands for hill-tribe homestays and tea forests before flying back south.
