Pick two places, not four. Vientiane and Luang Prabang in five days works. Adding Vang Vieng and the south does not — you will spend the trip in transit.
Take the train or fly the internal leg. The Vientiane to Luang Prabang road is beautiful and takes most of a day. On a four-day trip, that day is a quarter of your holiday.
